What is the difference between Foxtail & Foxylady seedlings? DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE

After many years and trees that are ungodly tall, my foxy lady, 1 of 2 dropped 2 very ripe very real looking seeds. I’m hoping that the foxy lady will turn all green it only has 1 frond that is variegated. I've been growing this foxy lady a few years now and I think it's time to rehome her. F1 hybrids tend to be more consistent, and I guess this is why what we know as a foxy lady (F1) has its signature look. Is there any way to tell if seeds are hybridized by looking at them as they develop? So my question would be if this palm is mostly green will it do well in full sun The pool fence isn't nearly high enough for any shade for the entire plant, and it looks like the leaves are getting full sun most of the day, probably with low humidity. 300+ palms, 90+ species in the ground Another possibility that could be of concern is, if it was pot grown and roots had exited the drain holes and anchored into the ground, they may have been severed when lifting the pot from the ground. Hello, I'm a novice collector and bought a 15 gallon foxy lady from a seller in Temecula, CA about 2 and a half weeks ago. Some died at seedling stage, and others just died a slow death, even though they were all grown in shade.

Hot and dry in summer, humid and sticky monsoon season, perfect weather Christmas time One is variegated and the other is not?? Are they famous because they are the first to produce viable seed? Are they the first two foxy ladies cultivated??? Being in tropical Cairns, they were probably seedlings 3 yrs ago. Already have an account? Never noticed seed on the variegated Foxy located in another part of the collection. I have an f2 foxy lady I might be interested in letting go if you are interested I can come pick up that palm at your convenience,deliver you $200 cash, plus the 3 Pseudophoenix seedlings in the pic if you would be interested in selling. I have got palms from Flouibunda and jungle music and never had the problem I had with this palm of you are going to ship palms at least learn how to pack them!!! I never said the palm looked bad I said it was basically bare root and variegated which I specifically said I didn’t want!!! He is the only one to have a problem with their foxy lady order, and started to complain even before it was delivered. 1 of each 3 and 7 is slightly variegated with 2 of each being greens.

Secondly, drought tolerance is typically referring to in ground established plants.
Now correct me if I am wrong is it true that even the green ones will spit out some variation in its life span ?
Appears to be the green form.
Only the variegated FL produced viable seed so far, but none of the seedlings are variegated.
It took about years of seeding until some viable seed dropped.
I moved the pot to a shadier spot in my yard and applied copious water this morning, and went home at lunch and gave it another soaking.

The green form tends to perform better in full all day sun than the variegated which burns more easily especially in hot dry sun. For the past few months, specimens are in the 1gal pot size, with the palm being around a 1’ in height, most are variegated form. Both are superbly grown, just needs to planted to adapt to So Cal conditions and watering. A potted palm, drought tolerant or not, needs watering much more often than one in the ground that's established. It's a bad combination for the palm to deal with root trauma and to fight full scorching sun at the same time. I have 2 smaller foxys, and they were sensitive to repotting; it stunted their growth for several months.

Yeah I could tell it is 100% green as well.
There are no light colored green leaves and zero variegation.
While the largest would flower & produce seed often, most seed i'd collect were empty or basically liquid when opened.

Time will tell with my original plant... I'm encouraged to see some growth of the spear, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. So after a couple weeks of treatment, the remaining leaves are browning but I have noticed some minimal growth (a couple millimeters) of the spear. Good quality plant and amazing growth. I bought a 7 gallon from Premier Growers about 8 months ago and it's already outgrowing the 25 gallon pot I moved it into. Was it grown from a seed made by nature or by manual cross pollination? Here is the palm, looks very healthy aside from the obvious cold spots on the old fronds.

Sometime even though they are hard, they float. They s/b just a hard and firm as a foxtail or vetchia to be viable. The fastest way I check for viable seed is to roll the seed on concrete with my foot, giving it some moderate pressure. It took about years of seeding until some viable seed dropped. I have been growing F2 Foxy Ladies for the last 3 years. Well mine has a sparse seed set that dropped today.

Are Foxy Lady palms sterile?

Regular 'ol green specimens always look flawless. In all the years i have observed it, fronds on the variegated spec. I'd suggest spending sometime at Kopsick Palmatium in St. Pete. So why does it seem the green is the better choice ? Lots of people have been sold green 'foxy lady' palms in the past, that eventually turn out growing up into standard foxtails. When you germinated the seeds of the foxy lady and the foxtail did you plant them at the same time? My big green one enjoys full sun however and is the fastest growing palm in my landscape and I have hundreds of palms in the ground. These foxy lady palms are thirsty and it's nearly impossible to overwater them. The foxtails have been grown in some shade, and the foxyladies have been growing in at least 1/2 day Sun. From what I understand about F2 hybrids, this result is not surprising. Kind of like a cross between foxtail fiber and the very smooth Vechis fiber. Here is the 5th seed that failed float test. I picked up a few seed that was on the ground while taking pics.

I think it’s better classifies as mostly green or mostly variegated that’s my conclusion There are no light colored green leaves and zero variegation. That palm is 100% solid dark healthy green. David the light must be playing tricks in the photo, this palm has zero variegation. Full greens do not have any variegation. From the pic seems like your palm flew across the country foxy gold unharmed. Actually,light variegation is not a bad thing. Premier has sargentii seedlings and 7gal vinifera but they don’t know how to ship. I am lousy at keeping seedlings alive let alone sargentii seedlings! I do need to get better on checking my palm talk tho! Purchased several years ago as a seedling from a breeder in Florida. Where did that palm originate? I hope/expect some new batches to hit the market sometime soon.
